Christmas Lights Hanging

Holiday lights hung safely along your roofline, eaves and peaks, billed by the linear foot, with no ladders for you and no holes in your roof.

Hanging holiday lights is one of the most common reasons homeowners end up on a ladder or a wet roof in November. Our crew works at height every day, so we can light up your home safely and neatly while you stay on the ground. Because we are roofers, we also know how to work on shingles and gutters without damaging them: every line is attached with plastic clips made for the purpose, never with nails, screws or staples driven into your roof.

Billed by the linear foot

Christmas light installation is priced by the linear foot: the length of each run of lights we install, measured along the roofline. Before any work begins, we measure your home and give you a written quote that lists the footage for each area, the rate per linear foot and the total, so you know the full cost up front.

Areas are measured and listed separately, so you can choose exactly what you want lit:

  • Eaves and gutter lines along the front, sides or back of the house
  • Peaks and gable edges
  • Ridgelines
  • Dormers, garages and porches
  • Window, door and railing outlines

Your invoice is based on the footage actually installed. If you decide on installation day to add or leave out a section, the amount is adjusted at the same rate per linear foot, and we confirm the change with you before we leave. Steep or high sections that need extra safety equipment are identified and priced on the quote, never added afterwards.

Your lights, installed properly

We install the lights you already own. Before anything goes up, we test every strand and let you know if any are worn, damaged or not rated for outdoor use, so problems are found on the ground instead of on the roof.

Takedown and storage

Takedown in January is quoted with the installation, also by the linear foot, so the whole season is priced in one place. We remove every clip, coil each strand and label it by area so next year goes up even faster.

Safety on the roof

Our crew uses proper fall protection and follows WorkSafeBC requirements for work at height. We connect lights only to outdoor-rated, ground fault protected outlets, use outdoor-rated cords and timers, and route cords so they do not cross walkways or sit in pooled water.

When to book

Installations usually run from early November into December, and the calendar fills quickly. Booking in October gives you the best choice of dates. If your gutters need cleaning, we can do it on the same visit before the lights go up, so leaves and water are not trapped behind the clips all winter.

Questions about Christmas lights hanging

How much does professional Christmas light installation cost per foot?

Christmas light installation is priced by the linear foot, measured along each run of lights on your roofline. Your written quote lists the footage for each area, the rate per foot and the total. Steep or high sections that need extra safety equipment are shown on the quote, so there are no surprises.

How long does Christmas light installation take?

Most homes take a few hours, depending on the footage, the height of the roof and how many areas are being lit. We confirm the time when we book your installation date.

Do I need to be home for Christmas light installation?

No, you do not need to be home, as long as your lights are left out for us and we can reach your outdoor outlets. We test every strand before it goes up and confirm any changes with you before we leave.

Are outdoor Christmas lights safe in West Coast rain?

Yes, when they are rated for outdoor use and connected properly. We use only outdoor-rated cords and ground fault protected outlets, keep connections off the ground and out of pooled water, and tell you if any of your strands are not safe for outdoor use.

Will Christmas lights raise my electricity bill?

LED Christmas lights use a small fraction of the power of older incandescent strands, so the added cost for a typical home is low. A timer that runs your lights only in the evening keeps the cost down further.

Is takedown included, and when do you take Christmas lights down?

Takedown is quoted with your installation, also by the linear foot, so the whole season is priced in one place. We take lights down in January and remove every clip, leaving your roof and gutters as we found them.

What happens to my lights after takedown?

We coil each strand and label it by area, such as front eaves or garage peak, and leave the lights with you for storage. Labelled strands make next year’s installation faster.

Do you hang Christmas lights on trees and bushes?

Our service focuses on rooflines, eaves, peaks, ridgelines, and window, door and railing outlines. If you would like trees or shrubs lit as well, ask when you request your quote and we will tell you what we can do.

How is Christmas light installation priced?

By the linear foot of lights installed, measured along each run: eaves, gutters, peaks, ridgelines and outlines. Your written quote lists the footage for each area, the rate per linear foot and the total before any work begins, and takedown in January is quoted the same way.

Will hanging lights damage my roof or gutters?

Not when it is done properly. We use plastic clips made for gutters and shingle edges, so nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into your roof, and every clip comes off at takedown.

Can you use the lights I already have?

Yes. We install the lights you already own. We test every strand first and let you know if any are worn or not rated for outdoor use.

When should I book Christmas light installation?

Installations usually run from early November into December. Booking in October gives you the best choice of dates.
